Thanks for stopping by!

I look for interesting details of the wedding market and report on them here. I have traveled the country this year speaking with many photographers about everything from workflow to marketing... Everyone I met was willing to participate in a meaningful way to the discussion of market trends. That showed me that you are all very passionate about the business of wedding photography! I will continue to report on trends here as I see them come up in the industry. Please bookmark my blog, pass it around to friends and of course comment on what you find here! Thanks for visiting my blog, I appreciate your time! Putting together a new blog over at so will be slowly transitioning to that!

Tuesday, June 12, 2007 mom sent me this on Slate!

If you have a few minutes there are some pretty funny articles in this issue.
I particularly liked the one on Traditional Photography! :)

Thanks Mom!

J- Thanks for posting this- the slideshow in defense of traditional wedding photographs is very cool and makes some good arguments on both sides, though it seems to me the author/photographer isn't giving PJ enough credit, or truly understanding how a photojournalist works. Yes, we seek to document the day as it unfolds, but we also are communicative enough with our clients to know when they need us to be a bit more traditional, like for the family formals. I love when I am doing the formal shots and wedding guests are standing beside me taking the same shots with their cameras and I see the image come up on their LCDS and even though we are standing in the same place and looking at the same thing, the image I get versus the one they get speaks to the fact that we are both "seeing" something very different.
I think it's the photographer who can seamlessly marry both the candid and the conventional who will be the most successful. And above all else, communication with the client is critical. Some don't mind the backfat and the sweat because they see the expression beyond that, while others would die if a shot like that ever made it into their album and it is our job to have the wisdom to know the difference!
